It never fails — every time there is some sort of eclipse to be seen I
miss it because of cloud cover. Ah well I guess I can catch the next
new moon and just pretend right? I remember living in Floyd County
during the appearance of Hale Bop. We had a fantastic view. I spent
many an hour camped out on the deck with iced tea, the dogs and an old
pair of binoculars watching that thing. The sky fascinates me. It
always has. I just enjoy losing myself in it at night. Lying underneath
a starry sky – you just know that your problems are tiny and that life
goes on. Somehow it makes life a little easier to survive. At this
point I take great pride that I have made it this far without climbing
a clock tower and taking out a few dozen people. Heck, at this point I
take great pride that I have simply made it this far. When the cool
stuff happens with the sky I miss my mom more than usual. We used to
share the night sky often. She taught me to love the vast black night
and not to be afraid of it. She taught me a lot. Maybe I will take a
drive and see if I can catch a glimpse of the moon tonight.
